Outreach Manager


Hebrew Free Loan is seeking a creative, self-motivated team player with a warm, cooperative nature and an abundance of positive energy to join our collaborative, fast-paced, eleven-person staff team based in San Francisco (although currently working remotely). The Outreach Manager will play a key role in spreading the word about Hebrew Free Loan’s interest-free loans to help residents of Northern California overcome hardships and pursue their dreams. Our agency primarily serves the Jewish community, but an additional program provides loans to non-Jewish college students from lower income homes. 

This is a new position created to develop and implement innovative strategies for reaching people in need of assistance who may not know about our services. As the Jewish community has become less affiliated and more geographically dispersed, we must reach out beyond traditional referral sources like synagogues and other Jewish organizations to increase awareness of Hebrew Free Loan as far and wide as possible.

The Outreach Manager will be responsible for planning and executing outreach campaigns, attending meetings and public events, and contacting individuals and organizations to develop new referral networks and channels by which people might learn about Hebrew Free Loan’s services. This work will complement our existing marketing activities (regular e-newsletters, social media postings, etc), but will focus entirely on spreading the word about our loan programs through intensive, targeted outreach. The Outreach Manager will be part of a six-person marketing and development team and report to our Assistant Director. 


For 125 years, Hebrew Free Loan has been helping individuals and families throughout Northern California’s Jewish community to become financially self-sufficient. Based on the Jewish values of tzedakah (justice/charity), gemilut hasadim (acts of loving kindness), and tikkun olam (repairing the world), we provide interest-free loans to meet a wide range of needs. Loan types include small business, debt consolidation, fertility, first-time homebuyer, student, and many others. Currently, nearly 1,400 individuals have interest-free loans from our agency totaling $19 million.


  • Develop and implement innovative strategies for reaching Jewish residents of Northern California who are unfamiliar with Hebrew Free Loan: people who need our loans but are not connected to organized Jewish communities that could let them know about Hebrew Free Loan’s existence.
  • Identify organizations and networks whose constituents are not exclusively Jewish but include many Jews, and develop and maintain positive relationships with those organizations and networks. These might include, but would not be limited to, fertility clinics, high school guidance counselors, real estate professionals, senior living communities, preschools, parent support groups, entrepreneurship programs, etc.
  • Organize and lead a wide range of outreach activities, including meetings, community events, presentations, and other communication opportunities. Engage and inform prospective loan recipients (and those who might know prospective loan recipients) about the benefits of Hebrew Free Loan’s various interest-free loan programs.
  • Develop and maintain a database of referral sources and organizational partners, e.g., financial aid offices, mortgage brokers, etc. Send regular mailings (electronic and physical) to these contacts for ongoing outreach and collaboration.
  • Work collaboratively with our marketing and development team to develop new outreach materials as needed. 


  • 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit marketing, communications, public relations, or similar fields such as sales, recruitment, or school admissions
  • Superb written and oral communication skills, including comfort and experience with public speaking and the ability to be warm, engaging, and persuasive in 1:1 settings and groups of various sizes
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of media, including print, email, phone, and in person
  • Skilled at building relationships, interacting with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, and adapting messaging and communication style to connect with different audiences
  • Superior organization and prioritization skills. Ability to manage a heavy workload and balance competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent administrative and technology skills. Fluent with Microsoft Office applications and ease in learning other software programs
  • Comfortable working as part of a highly engaged, collaborative team
  • Willing to travel within Northern California, and attend weekend and evening events as needed
  • Sense of humor
