
Development Director
Rabbi Jamie Hyams joined Hebrew Free Loan in 2016 and serves as Development Director, helping expand access to interest-free loans and strengthen the organization’s impact throughout Northern California. She brings decades of experience in fundraising, community engagement, and program development through her work with organizations including the Jewish Federation, the Shalom Hartman Institute, and the Contra Costa JCC.
Beyond her work at Hebrew Free Loan, Jamie is deeply committed to building vibrant Jewish communities. She is the founder of Chai Cycle, a Jewish cycling community that explores Jewish values through cycling, conversation, and shared experiences. She also serves as the rabbi of the Mother Lode Jewish Community and coordinates the Friday Morning Torah Study in partnership with New Lehrhaus.
A believer in the power of meaningful conversation, Jamie is also a self-described expert on Bay Area coffeehouses. She is always happy to meet over a great cup of coffee and a thoughtful discussion.
Jamie is a Wexner Heritage Fellow, fluent in Hebrew, and holds a BA in History from Lewis & Clark College, a BFA from California College of the Arts, and an MA in Rabbinic Studies from the Academy for Jewish Religion, California.
She and her husband, Michael, have two grown sons, three cats, and a dog named Jane.
