We’ve just said goodbye to Irene Partsuf, who spent eight weeks with us through the JVS Kohn Summer Intern Program. The Kohn program helps build the next generation of Jewish leaders, placing college students with Jewish nonprofits throughout the Bay Area.

Irene knew about Hebrew Free Loan through the local Russian-speaking Jewish community. “Many of my friends and relatives received loans when they arrived here,” she says. “I believe in the mission and what Hebrew Free Loan does for the community.”

She especially enjoyed having the chance to meet with loan recipients. “I saw first-hand how the loans make a positive impact on peoples’ lives in so many different ways,” Irene says.

Irene is heading back to New Orleans for her sophomore year at Tulane University, where she’s majoring in economics. Asked what she will do now that the internship is over, Irene does not hesitate: “I am going to apply for a Hebrew Free Loan student loan!”
